Radiologicalclearance
Particulate radiological contamination and dirty bomb response drills in VR. Radiac probe scanning, alpha/beta/gamma dosimeter tracking, lead-shield staging, and radioactive waste segregation.
Six steps — Radiation mitigation protocol
Liquid spray without prior dry HEPA vacuuming converts radioactive dust into radioactive slurry that wicks into crevices and drastically multiplies localized dose rates.
- 01
Isotope & dose-rate assessment
Approach from upwind using pancake GM probes and gamma spectrometers. Establish background baseline and identify dirty-bomb isotope signatures.
- 02
ALARA boundary & lead shielding
Position mobile lead curtains and compute Stay-Time thresholds to guarantee cumulative operator radiation dose remains strictly within ALARA safety limits.
- 03
Dry HEPA particulate vacuum extraction
Extract loose radioactive particulate dust with certified nuclear HEPA vacuums before applying liquids, preventing radioactive slurry from migrating into joints.
- 04
Chelating surfactant chemical binding
Apply specialized radiological binding agents that chemically sequester radionuclide particles into a stable, non-evaporating surface emulsion.
- 05
Closed-loop shielded washdown
Wash surfaces with recirculating filtered rinse, capturing radioactive effluent directly into lead-lined waste containment drums.
- 06
Zero-count survey & badge readout
Slow 1-centimeter surface scan of wrists, soles, respirator seams, and kit. Release granted only when net count rate matches ambient natural background.
Scored on cumulative dose & count-rate threshold
- Radiac probe distance
- ALARA time-on-station
- Dry HEPA extraction
- Closed-loop runoff
- Zero-count background check
